Privacy policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Your privacy is at the heart of CarCompass: we find cars for you without turning you into a lead. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices you have.

1.What we collect

Account details (name, email, optional phone and home ZIP code), your searches (what you're looking for, location, distance and budget), your messages with our team, the matches you like or dismiss, and basic technical data such as your browser and IP address for security.

2.How we use it

To run your searches, send you matches, talk with you in the chat, coordinate dealership visits you ask for, keep the service secure and improve our search. We use your approximate location only to find dealerships near you.

3.When we share it

We never sell your personal data. We share your details with a dealership only when you choose to contact it, and with service providers that help us run CarCompass (hosting, email, maps) under strict agreements. We may disclose data if the law requires it.

4.Location

If you use “Use my location”, your browser shares your position once; we convert it to the nearest ZIP code and don't track you afterwards.

5.How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your searches, messages and personal details, except records we must keep by law.

6.Your choices and rights

You can see and edit your details in your account, change your notification preferences, download what we hold about you on request, and delete your account at any time.

7.Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, optional two-step verification and strict access controls for our team.

8.Children

CarCompass is for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

9.Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you before the change takes effect.
